Poem Ruth Chapter 1

Ruth’s Faithful Choice

A Poem on Ruth Chapter 1.

In Bethlehem, a famine came,
And hunger filled the land;
So Elimelech left his home,
For Moab’s distant strand.

With Naomi and their sons,
He sought a better life;
But sorrow entered through their door—
Naomi lost her husband and sons,
And grief became her strife.

Then word arrived that God once more
Had blessed His people’s grain;
So Naomi turned toward Bethlehem,
Though burdened down with pain.

Ruth and Orpah followed her,
But Naomi gently said,
“Return, my daughters, to your homes;
My hope and joy have fled.”

With tearful eyes, Orpah returned,
But Ruth would not depart;
She clung to grieving Naomi
With love within her heart.

“Wherever you may go, I’ll go;
Your people shall be mine.
Your God shall be the God I serve;
My life with yours shall bind.”

Together they reached Bethlehem
As barley harvest grew;
Naomi thought her life was bare,
But God’s great plan was true.

For though she felt completely empty,
And bitter from her pain,
The Lord was working silently
To fill her life again.

Through faithful Ruth, great blessings came,
More wonderful than she knew;
For from her family’s chosen line,
Our blessed Saviour grew.

So when your pathway fills with grief,
And hope appears to cease,
Remember God is working still
And leading you to peace.

The darkest chapter is not the end;
God’s purpose will come through.
Be faithful, trusting in the Lord—
He will take care of you.

“Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” — Ruth 1:16
