At the Feet of Her Redeemer
A Poem Inspired by Ruth Chapter 3
The harvest was ending in Bethlehem town,
As evening’s soft shadows were gently cast down.
Ruth faithfully laboured through heat of the day,
While God, in His wisdom, was preparing her way.
Naomi said, “Daughter, I’m seeking your rest,
A home where your future may truly be blessed.
For Boaz, our kinsman, is faithful and true;
Perhaps our great God has a purpose for you.”
So Ruth made herself ready and followed the plan,
Placing her trust in that honourable man.
She went to the threshing floor under the skies,
And waited till Boaz had closed both his eyes.
Then quietly Ruth at his feet took her place,
Appealing for shelter, protection and grace.
At midnight he woke and was startled to see
A woman who knelt there so humbly.
“Who are you?” he asked her. Ruth answered his call:
“I’m Ruth, your handmaid, with nothing at all.
Please cover and shelter me under your wing,
For you are our kinsman—redemption can bring.”
Then Boaz said, “Daughter, the Lord bless you now;
Your kindness and virtue bring joy to my brow.
The people all know you are faithful and true;
Whatever you ask, I will gladly now do.”
“But one nearer kinsman must first have his say;
I promise to settle the matter today.
If he will not help you, then surely I will—
As surely as God lives, my word I’ll fulfil.”
Before Ruth departed at breaking of dawn,
He filled up her covering with measures of corn.
She carried the blessing to Naomi’s door,
A sign that her life would be empty no more.
When Ruth told Naomi what Boaz had said,
She answered, “Be patient; you’ve nothing to dread.
This man will not rest till the matter is done;
Be still and take courage—the answer will come.”
Like Ruth, we may kneel at our Lord’s wounded feet,
With nothing to offer, our need made complete.
Yet Jesus receives every soul who believes,
And through His redemption, new mercy receives.
Our Saviour has paid what we never could pay;
His blood washed our sins and our darkness away.
He covers His children with mercy and love,
And promises life in His kingdom above.
When answers seem distant and hope appears small,
Be still and remember—the Lord sees it all.
The God who began it will see His work through;
Your faithful Redeemer is caring for you.
So rest in His promise and trust in His Word;
No prayer of His children will ever go unheard.
Though now you are waiting and cannot yet see,
Christ finishes all that He promised would be.
“Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall.” — Ruth 3:18
