Poem – Psalm 118

The Stone the Builders Refused

Psalm 118

The stone the builders cast away,
God chose to stand for endless day;
Rejected, scorned, despised by men,
Yet Christ arose to live again.

They mocked His name and pierced His side,
Upon the cross our Saviour died;
They laid Him in a borrowed grave,
But death could never hold or save.

The morning came, the stone was rolled,
The greatest story ever told;
The tomb was empty, Christ had won,
The work of our salvation done.

“The LORD is on my side,” I’ll say,
Though troubles gather round my way;
When earthly help and comforts end,
The Lord remains my faithful Friend.

’Tis better far to trust the Lord
Than lean upon man’s changing word;
For human strength will fade away,
But God remains from day to day.

“I shall not die, but live,” I’ll sing,
And tell the wonders of my King;
While breath remains and life is mine,
I’ll speak of mercy, love divine.

“This is the day the LORD hath made,”
So let not hope within us fade;
Rejoice, be glad, lift up your voice,
In Christ our Cornerstone rejoice!

When every earthly wall shall fall,
Jesus Christ shall stand through all;
On Him alone my soul shall rest,
My Rock, my Refuge, ever blessed.

So build not life on sinking sand,
But on the Rock forever stand;
The Stone rejected long ago
Is now the Rock of hope we know.

Give thanks unto the Lord above,
For endless mercy, grace, and love;
Through every trial still proclaim:

JESUS THE CORNERSTONE—FOREVER STILL THE SAME!

“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:for his mercy endureth for ever.”— Psalm 118:29 (KJV)
