Poem-Ruth Chapter 4

Redeemed and Restored

A Poem Inspired by Ruth Chapter 4

At Bethlehem’s gate in the clear morning light,
Boaz arrived there to make all things right.
Ten elders were seated to witness that day,
As Boaz prepared Ruth’s redemption to pay.

The nearest relation was passing nearby;
“Come, sit here a moment,” was Boaz’s cry.
“Naomi has land which you first may redeem;
Will you take your place in God’s wonderful scheme?”

The man first agreed, for the land seemed worthwhile,
But hearing of Ruth quickly altered his smile.
“To take Ruth as well could bring loss unto me;
You take my redemption—I give it to thee.”

He took off his sandal, as custom required,
Then Boaz received what his heart had desired.
Before all the elders, he boldly made known:
“I’ll purchase the land and take Ruth as my own.”

The people replied, “We are witnesses here;
May God bless your household for many a year.”
The Lord joined together two hearts that were true,
And gave them a future more blessed than they knew.

Ruth once was a widow, a stranger and poor,
Who gathered the barley left scattered before.
But God saw her faith and the love she had shown,
And now through redemption she was not alone.

The Lord gave a baby to Ruth and her man;
Young Obed was part of God’s wonderful plan.
Naomi embraced him with joy in her heart—
The Lord turned her sorrow to a brand-new start.

For Obed had Jesse, and Jesse had one
Named David, whom God chose to reign as His son.
And through David’s family, in God’s chosen time,
Would come Jesus Christ, our Redeemer divine.

The Lord took a woman from Moab’s dry land
And guided her life with His merciful hand.
She never imagined the honour she’d see,
Or how God would shape all of history.

Like Boaz, our Saviour was willing to pay,
But Jesus gave more than possessions away.
He suffered and died on the cross in our place,
To purchase our pardon and cover with grace.

The price of redemption was paid by His blood;
He lifts guilty sinners and calls them His loved.
No silver or gold could remove sin and shame—
Salvation is found through Christ’s wonderful name.

When life appears empty and sorrow is near,
Remember how God turned Naomi’s dark year.
Though she once believed all her blessings had gone,
The Lord had been working and leading her on.

So never decide that your story is through;
The Lord may be planning a blessing for you.
Remain true and faithful through each open door—
Our God can redeem us, restore and give more.

From heartache to gladness, from famine to bread,
God faithfully guided the path Ruth would tread.
Her story reminds us, wherever we roam:
Our loving Redeemer can welcome us home.

“Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman.” — Ruth 4:14
