When God Says “No” or “Wait”
I prayed to God both day and night,
But still no answer came in sight;
Yet though His purpose was concealed,
In His own time it was revealed.
God may say “Yes,” or He may say “No,”
Or gently whisper, “Wait and know
That I am working for your good—
Keep trusting Me, as My child should.”
In dark Gethsemane that night,
Our Saviour faced a dreadful fight;
He prayed, “Let this cup pass from Me,”
Yet bowed to God on bended knee.
“Not as I will, but as Thou wilt,”
He prayed before our shame and guilt;
The cup remained, the cross drew near,
Yet Christ obeyed despite His fear.
Upon the cross He took our place,
And opened Heaven’s door of grace;
What seemed like Heaven’s answer, “No,”
Brought life to sinners here below.
Paul prayed his thorn would be removed,
But through his weakness God still proved:
“My grace is all you need from Me,
My strength shall win the victory.”
Sometimes the Lord removes our load;
Sometimes He walks the harder road
Beside us, giving strength each day,
Until our night has passed away.
So when no answer can be heard,
Keep trusting in God’s faithful Word;
His silence does not mean He’s gone—
His loving hand is leading on.
If God says “Wait,” then patiently
Believe He knows what you cannot see;
And if His answer should be “No,”
Trust that His wisdom still will show.
Lord, keep me humble at Thy feet,
And make my faith in Thee complete;
Whatever answer Thou may give,
For Thee alone I choose to live.
“Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”
